My working career has always involved the medical and care industry. I originally worked within customer service and then had a change of career once my son was born.
I became a health care assistant to fit in with his childcare and then, once I was able to work longer hours, I worked within the ambulance service, both on patient transport and then managing the bookings and planning journeys within the control centre.
I moved onto answering emergency calls via lifeline equipment which fuelled my concern with the amount of people with multiple health issues, elderly and vulnerable that were alone in the community. I wanted to become more involved in the social care aspect to help these people. I began working as an administration manager in a care home and started to learn more about the social care of the vulnerable and in particular the elderly.
In my experience of speaking with carers in the community and visiting care and nursing homes, during my time working on patient transport, I was upset by the attitude and lack of compassion I saw in some carers. This is one of the reasons why we want to make a difference.
We are so proud of the care and compassion that our carers have for the residents in our own care and nursing homes, that we wanted to bring this care to other people that need it in other homes.
